I took the lens (attached to my trusty K10D) to an old logging camp in the Coastal range between Portland and Seaside. The test pictures taken may be found at

and comments would be welcome.
Thanks, Doug. _________________ Lenses and cameras:

Very nice Doug, what an interesting place. The two main characteristics of this lens that I like are the bright colours and the sharpness and your copy shows these off very well. I think you got a great bargain.
Its negative points are that it's prone to flare and distortion near the edges at the wide end. If you don't have one yet I'd recommend you look for the dedicated Tamron hood, it's a clamp-on type (Model 25F) and doubles for your lens and the 35-70, Model 09A. _________________ Peter - Moderator

Thanks for the advice. I did notice yesterday that if the sun was anywhere in front of the lens the flare was plainly visible through the finder! This led to my attempting to hold the camera, manually focus it, check the focus confirmation light (almost invisible) and shade the lens with my left hand, whilst gently depressing the shutter button all at the same time!
I fear that several other visitors gained the impression that I was either mentally deficient (quite possible!) or in some way a contortionist? Hmm _________________ Lenses and cameras:

Good pics. I bought this lens new in '85 and it's been my most used lens ever since (well, until lately)... I actually like the barrel distortion at 35mm. I also have the clamp on shade, but haven't ever used it on the theory that it's too wide/stubby (to clear the wide end) to be really effective. I suppose I need to try it.
Those are sharp & have good color. I've compared to modern Pentaxes both Limited and the 16-45 f/4, and while this lens doesn't quite keep up with the primes it gets closer to their performance than the Pentax zoom.
It's definitely a keeper of a lens! Thanks for the pics |

Thanks for your comments - I also like the Vivitar Series One dedicated macro that I got at a knock down price - now I need to try the dedicated Canon FD 50mm macro - but that means buying some film (remember that stuff?) lol _________________ Lenses and cameras:
