Don't have a camera or an adapter that fits this c/y mount
I searched the forum for topics but not much came up, or a lot of dead links
Anyone want to share their experiences, is it worth it to invest in an adapter?
Seeing as I already have so many good macro lenses in that focal lenght (FD 50mm, vivitar 55mm, tomioka 60mm)
On the other hand this is probably the most mint-y lens I have had so far, it looks brand new

Very good lens, smooth focus. It vignets slightly at 2.8 but as Klaus said on a different topic a good while ago :" who the hell shoots a macro lens at 2.8" or something similar. Feel free to correct me Klaus. _________________ Moderator Himself |

I was wondering how everyone's performs at longer distances, mine is soft when shooting subjects across the street, if that's normal it has no use to me, as I would want to use it for more than just macro, like I can with my other 50 macros like my FD SSC 50/3.5 which is sharp at all apertures and distances. _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...

I just acquired the 55/4 and am waiting on a C/Y adapter myself, Karen. How do you feel they compare (2.8 to 4) himself?
Lightshow - I read something that indicated the 2.8 could be soft when shooting normal scenes due to it's design. _________________ ________________________________________________________

This is from http://louislam.photopage.org/Yashica/Yashica.htm:

Although this lens is designed for the close focus range application, it is equally useful for distance objects. However, this lens performs better in near than in far. May be due to it is lacking of the floating elements.
When used in close proximity, this lens can provides excellent resolving power , even up to the far corners. |

The Makro Planar 60mm I tried does not show obvious softness at far objects. It may not be as sharp as other 50s at F2.8 but it is already sharp enough on F4. On the contrast, the Makro Planar 100mm with floating element is sharper at infinity than close distance which makes it an all-rounder. _________________ The best lens is the one you have with you.

Interesting Calvin. I know you are speaking of the Makro Planar, but I would expect the Yashica 55/2.8 to have good corner to corner sharpness being that it is a Planar design. If it has to be stopped down to F4, I don't consider that a big deal. I do know floating element designs seem to make a big difference.
After some reading I determined that the 55/4 Yashica, which looks very much like the 55/2.8 from the outside, is actually a Tessar design instead of Planar. I would expect better center sharpness, less edge to edge. The Konica 55 macro is also a Tessar, and they look very similar when you look down the barrel. _________________ ________________________________________________________

Zeiss design the Contax Makro Planar 100mm be an an all-rounder and the 60mm be an lens which perform best at close distance(see the description on the manual below). Floating element helps to correct the aberrations at different focus distance. I think Yashica follows the same design philosophy as Zeiss do.

The 100 mm Makro-Planar® T* f/2.8 lens is a universal lens which, without further attachments, permits high-quality long-range and macrophotography down to a scale of 1:1. A floating element ensures uniform and high image quality over the whole focusing range. The helical focusing mount permits the image scale to be continuously varied from inf to 1:1. ... |

The 60 mm Makro-Planar® f/2.8 lens is a special lens, the correction of which is optimized for close range, whereas lenses for general photography are optimized for long object distances. The design of this lens corresponds to that of an almost symmetrical Planar® lens, the correction of which is remarkably steady with changes of the image scale. If it is stopped down slightly more than normal taking lenses with similar focal lengths, it can also be used for long-range photography with satisfactory results. ... |
Yes. Well design Tessars will have pretty good performance in the center. When you stop down them, they will be come very good performers except in the far edge. Double Gauss types will have more uniform sharpness across the frame. _________________ The best lens is the one you have with you.
