I have a Praktica MTL5, almost new, but with some problems because I use it rarely. The lever is locked, also the mirror. It was repaired at a service, but now I have the same problem. I just wanted to load another film, after the first one worked very good. The cost of the repairs was as big as a second hand camera, so I want another solution.
Should I open it? Rolling Eyes

I'd take the bottom plate off and carefully prod around with a tiny screw driver. h'mm repairs the same as another camera? well that was cheap as you can pick them up for as cheap as £4.
Just bought a TL-5B at a boot sale with 50mm and 135mm 3.5 Sonnar for £12.

I got a jammed MTL5 a long time ago, bought it for the lens. I have tried halfheartedly to unjam it with no success, apparently there is a plastic gear / pawl inside that strips very easily if the rewind lever is forced, and they are unavailable so the camera becomes a door stop.
Which is why I haven't really tried to fix it. It's a shame because the camera itself is just about mint condition.

This is about the best info' I found -

http://users.skynet.be/morris/praktica/

but it didn't work for me - from memory I tried the part with the rewind button and the pawl, and had no luck. So there's a parts camera here for the price of postage, but I do suspect it is a common fault to MTL5's so this one might be no use ?

I knew I'd read about the plastic gear problem somewhere, just found the link in my bookmarks to this old thread on the Camera Collectors Forum.
