F Mount Hexanons

A few weeks ago I won an auction for an early F-specific Hexanon 85/1.8 and while hunting for the F-AR adapter I also found a 52/1.4 and a 135/2.8!

After securing the F-AR adapter I couldn’t resist going on a shopping spree for dirt-cheap old glass:

50/2, 52/1.4, 52/1.8:

35/2.8, 100/2.8, 135/3.5:

I also picked up a couple of bellow rings and a tc to make additional adapters.

First impressions on these are VERY good. These little lenses all have great contrast and sharpness (especially the 35), and the construction quality for the price is amazing. They should keep me busy for a while Smile

I have the 35 and the 100 and both are superb, particularly the 35, it has a lot of 3D pop and is sharp as hell.

Very nice!
I have the 35/2.8 and 52/1.4, I'm hoping I come across an 85 some day to round out the kit.

I found a lovely little macro ring kit, with case and box, I'm reluctant to turn it into an adapter, and the lens isn't very secure.
I think I may buy another body to sacrifice for an adapter.

Wow! Congratulations. You have real gems there. The first three are extremely rare, especially the two telephoto lenses.

For those who are unfamiliar with those lenses, I should point out that "F-specific" in this case is not a reference to Konica's F-mount (although they are of this mount), but to Konica's first marketed SLR, the Konica F.

The Konica F, which came out in February 1960, was the world's first SLR with a vertically traveling metal shutter. That shutter's fastest speed was 1/2000s and it synched at 1/125s. It was also the first SLR with a coupled light meter. It even had a film pressure plate that lifted during film advance. That camera is a historical landmark and collector's item. When it works it fetches several thousand $. Apparently, only about 1600 such cameras were made, so this gives an idea of how many F-specific 85s and 135s there may be in circulation.

I've never tried it myself, of course, but their aperture linkage seems to be problematic when mounting those lenses on the later F-mount SLRs.

I'd be curious to see images produced by these lenses, especially the 85mm.

As to the later F-mount lenses, keep an eye out for the preset versions of the 35 and the 135. There are also two versions of the 200mm, both preset. The aperture rings on the earlier version are in aluminum, just like on the 85mm. It also has a revolving tripod collar. That lens is also quite rare. The later version is all black and without tripod collar. That one is much more common.

The only one in existence that I know of was made by Konica back in the sixties/seventies. Rare as hens' teeth. I've been looking for one myself. I think the fastest way to get one is to rig something up from an old F-mount SLR and the back of an AR lens. Sad

Thanks for all the feedback!

BeardsAreBest:
I started searching for a 100/2.8 after seeing Ian's samples on the other thread and I found one on eBay with the F-AR adapter attached. I couldn't believe my luck.
With a little bit or work you could modify a TC into an adapter but I think the easiest route is to attach the ring from the extension tubes or bellows to a cheap AR-Nex adapter. I plan on doing that at some point.

konicamera:
I'm new to Konica lenses (the 85/1.8 made me a believer), so I appreciate all the information. I did find a preset 35 and a late preset 200 but the prices were too high. I'll patiently wait for cheaper ones.
I did find a cheap 135/3.5. It's slightly thinner and lighter than the earlier version, it goes a stop lower and it has a 12 bladed aperture (vs 6 for the older model)

I have only 35mm f2.0 with lever focus adjustment, this is made for Konica F , super rare others without lever much more common even if they are rare as well.

It's probably easier to make an adapter than to find one.
