Hi

I recently bought a Meyer Optik Orestoger 200/4.

I intend to use it on my Nikon d600 with M42 adaptor , the lens appears to be in good condition with no visible scratches to the glass. All-round good condition.

The problem I have is the images shot at F/4 seem really hazy/ cloudy. I also seem to have problems getting a clear image. I’ve tried using an m42 adaptor with the infinity glass and without but no luck.

Here are a some handheld test shots I took quickly. They’re not great as one can see, I couldn't get tack sharp focus. The day was overcast. Maybe I need to dial in extra EV??

The Meyer seems to have a a very good score on the pentax forum reviews for lenses, so I was expecting awesome results but I am kind of disappointed, I can’t seem to create anything to good. Any tips?? Is my copy a lemon?

I have contacted the buyer and he recommended I come here to ask advice and said maybe use a lens hood to get more contrasty results. which lens hood and thread size do you recommend?

Today I will try to get some better pics.

Your thoughts are gratefully welcomed

Edit: when stopped down the view through the the camera's view finder becomes clearer, but the images are far from sharp.

No problem with hood here.
Looks quite obvious, that a lens element is misaligned or reversed.

Did you tried to shake the lens? no sound?

In my first look I would say there is something seriously wrong with the lens you have. My sample gives very sharp pictures.

A lens element seems to be reversed or in the wrong place.

You will need to bring it to a proper repairman and get it checked and repaired.

Yes. something didn't seem right when i looked at the first shot i took. Crying or Very sad

Yes, there is a problem with the lens for sure.
This is the kind of result you should be getting.

Yes something is definitely not right. I will contact the seller to see what they have to say regarding a refund. It seems to be faulty. I inspected the lens yesterday and it appears the screws have been tampered with, so we can assume it has been dismantled and maybe put back together incorrectly!

Does anyone have a lens construction diagram for this lens please? I would like to keep this lens and maybe get it fixed.

A common reason for a soft picture like this would be the rear lens element (or rear lens group) mounted backwards. Sometimes they look quite symmetric to bare eye, so making this mistake is easy for an amateur repairer.
