Super ! Thx for sharing !
I missed one for 50 EUR. A miserable seller refused to respect his word, and gave it on sale again to earn the same amount.
At this price it was a good deal.

One of the few Vivitars I've not owned. Supposed to be a great lens.

Yes , great one , but very heavy , big lens, you didn't lost much. I had two of them I sold both as a zoom lens too big bulky to carry around. As a macro lens ... any lens do same job with an extension ring.

I owned one in Nikon mount briefly. Before I even had a chance to use it, a friend offered me so much money for it, I gave in and sold it. After looking at the Modern tests, I wonder what the big deal is. Yes, it was sharp in macro modes for its time, but I think its time has passed.

Its reputation remains undiminished, however, judging by the prices it sells for on eBay.

Well...Yes and no. if you need a maximum magnification at a great camera-to-subject distance it's an invaluable alternative to a 200mm macro.
As is the Tamron 52A which is still sold at a great price ;
This is (again) the great link about it

Was i so tired, i did not saw i wrote in french !!

The test :

We cans see that the constrast has no relation with the supposed quality
and that the lens is no more flat field that any other lens (that was alerady known)

RESULT : Heavy/Small opening/Expensive =It's failure on market was logical
Nice projetc but so/so result

And the patent (opcon)

Thanks guys for looking.

There're lots of different opinions about this lens, even in this thread.

I have not used the lens a lot yet, but the first experience is very positive. What I like is the flexibility of changing field of view at close distance, especially out in the field. I did use a monopod. Because the focal length is quite long for a macro, the hit rate would be lower if it's hand-held only. With a tripod, it would be even better. The tripod collar that comes with the lens is very helpful.
