I am a happy X-E1 user.
My adapters so far:
- Leica M - X
- Leica M - X with internal focus helicoid
- Nikon F - X
- PK - X
- EOS - X
and the delivery of a "Lens Turbo PK-X" is pending. (Why PK? Because that is the only lens turbo available ATM and I do have a nice 19mm Vivitar in PK mount.)
With those adapters, I can get all my rangefinder lenses and almost all SLR-lenses (via the EOS-X) on the X-E1. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

How are you finding the camera so far for manual focusing? Do you miss the Nex 7 especially with peak focusing?
Why did you sell up and abandoned the Sony system altogether in favour of Fuji?
As for me I never liked or got used to the Nex 5. |

We probably are. But that might change. The prices of used bodies are going down already!

Manual focusing is much better with the NEX-7! I have to admit that. Focus peaking in the X-E1 viewfinder works, but it's not on par with the Sony system. It's about as good as in the Leica M (240), though.
And the EVF of the NEX-7 is faster than the one in the X-E1.
But those are IMHO the only advantages of the NEX-7 that count for me.
stingOM wrote: |

|
It was a decision made by my heart not my brain.
At the Photokina 2012 I was playing around with the X-Pro1 and loved it's looks but didn't like the camera's performance.
Slow AF that also missed the right focus! Terrible!!
I had been so excited about the X-Pro1, because I loved Larry's X100 that I could test for some month (but did not buy one).
But some weeks ago, a very good friend of mine gave me his X-E1 with the latest firmware and, boy, that thing amazed me!
It looked like a rangefinder cam (and I honestly think that rangefinder cams are the most beautiful ones!), it felt like a real camera and the AF was fast and reliable. Focus peaking was already implemented and the lenses ... a dream!
So within days, I calculated how much my NEX-set would bring and if that was enough for the X-E1 plus 18-55 and 1.4/35. My wife wanted a colour laser printer for her study and I also wanted the 1Nikkor 30-110 for my V1 (amazing lens BTW!). So, I found out that I needed to sell all my NEX stuff to pay for the X-E1, the three lenses, some adapters and the laser printer.
That called for a clear cut. (I first planned to keep the NEX-3, but now that Orio has it, I do not regret the sale at all. It's in very good hands.)
The NEX-7 is a fabulous camera with a sophisticated handling with AF lenses (Tri-Navi), great focus peaking and very, very good IQ.
The Sigma EX lenses (19 & 30) are really good, too, I would even say better than the Sony lenses!
But the NEX-7 felt more like one of those portable video games than like a camera. That never annoyed me, because I could do so much with it. Anyway, the X-E1 feels like a camera and really reminds me of my M8, which has that special feeling of an "M"-cam.
These two cams are just pure fun to use. They "touch my heart" whereas the NEX-7 was able to "convince my brain".
But when I saw the first images taken with my X-E1, my brain was equally convinced.
And - what is more - I really like the feeling of "thinning out". With all the adapters I had for the NEX, the possibilities became too many. Weird, but I am much happier with the Fuji. (Which I never would have though when I got the NEX-7!) _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

I am curious about the extended DR mode with this camera. There is an excellent review here:

I wonder do you just stick with exposure compensation or do you use the DR mode?
Its totally different to the S3 Pro which I think is still the king of highlight capture today. |

I have only used the DR mode to test it. I normally shoot in JPG and RAW. There is a lot that you can get out of highlights which look totally blown if you use RAW!!
And in the end that photo looked like this:
All just from one RAW file and some PP in PS CC. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Since last week I am an X-E1 user too.
I have to admit I really love this camera, especially my Pentax M lenses feel very well on it.
I got the feeling that the X-E1 compared to my Nex 5n delivers images with more details and more micro contrast. So even lenses which were not razor sharp wide open on my Nex and my Pentaxes exhibit somewhat more details with the X-E1. Is this just the effect of the missing AA-filter which the X-trans sensor does not need? Or am I wrong and it`s only the jpg-engine whitch applies more sharpening.

Congratulations, Timo.
The X-Series by Fuji is truely amazing. We are all X-men now.
It might be the missing AA filter or JPG sharpening, I don't know, but I also have the impression that the Fuji cams produce more details than Sony NEX cams. The 16 MPix X-E1 is on par with the Sony NEX-7 (24 MPix).
And I also agree that Pentax lenses work really well with those Fuji cams. I also love to use my Pentax lenses on the X-E1 and X-T1. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Good!
Even if I also have the X-T1 now, I still love the X-E1. I am kind of happy not to have the X-E2 as a complementary cam for my X-T1, since they share the same sensor.
The sensor in the X-T1/X-E2 is perhaps a little better at high ISOs, the sensor of the X-E1 is a bit better when it comes to dynamics.
They use the same batteries. Perfect match. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

How do you guys find the focus peaking? My adapter hasn't arrived yet so I haven't managed to come to a conclusion. I didn't find Sony peaking useful at all unless zoomed right in (which I think ruins the photography experience IMO).
P.s. I'm going to sell my XE-1 and buy a new one, as the current deal in the UK with a free lens means I'll save money doing so and have a brand new camera _________________ Graham - Moderator

Hi Graham, compared to my NEX-5 I think it is crappy But I believe latest implementation in the TX-1 is light years ahead!
Make sure you have the latest firmware as it will help to improve the performance of the camera:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/xe1/index.html
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/#lens_firmware
Example:
FUJINON XF Lens: XF35mmF1.4 R Firmware Update Ver.3.10
The firmware update Ver.3.00 incorporates the following issue:
Improvement of AF speed. The updated algorithm will enable AF speed to become faster. |
