No telescope used for this image. Just a tripod mounted Pentax K-5II with the AstroTracker feature of the O-GPS1 accessory (which moves the camera sensor to compensate for the apparent motion of the sky) and a SMC K 135mm f2.5. (This is not the Takumar (Bayonet) version).

Subexposures of 2x45, 3x40, 3x30, 3x20 were stacked in DeepSkyStacker version 3.3.3 beta 51 for a total of just 6 minutes of integrated exposure time. Lens was set to f4 and the camera at ISO 800.

That's absolutely incredible, what a great image from the Pentax. I guess it moves the sensor using the stabilisation mechanism ?

Awesome. And, that's pretty neat.

This was possible because of the GPS add on they sell?

Best use of GPS data ever :p

Thanks for the comments!

Yes, the O-GPS1 has an "AstroTrack" feature that moves the sensor to compensate for the apparent motion of the sky.

Love the Pentax for the combination of new technology/out-of-the-box thinking that goes into their designs COMBINED with the ability to easily use K-mount and m42 manual focus glass. Unbeatable combination.
