I have finally been able to test this lens, thanks to a member who sent me the M42/PK adapter with the flange. The lens itself is the all metal kind with a silver knurled F stop ring.Serial 18**** with FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. FUJINON written on the name ring.
Here are a few quick tests taken this morning,
#1 stopped down to 5.6 I think,no PP straight from the camera

#2 A minor contrast brightness adjustment,stopped down.

#3 1.8,wide open

#4 1.8/wide open

#5 Stopped down I think F 8

#6 A little bokeh,wide open

Looks like a good lens.
Did it have the Fujinon sticky-uppy thingy that needed filing off so that the back of the lens could mate flush?
Fujinons are very impressive from what I have seen.

No,but I have heard about that lug and having to grind it off. I think it came off a Fujica ST701(not sure it may have been a ST601) with the funky name plate,I gave the camera to a member on here.

I've got the same lens, also came on an ST701, I ended up just gluing the aperture pin on mine. Nice little lens, I assume the EBC versions are even better. Good build quality too. I wish some other Fujinons would fall into my lap like this one did, maybe that 135/2.5.

I did not want to glue the pin ,so it just sat in its plastic box for about 2 years. I kept myself occupied testing all those other lenses that came my way. Very Happy I am glad I kept it as it looks like a very good lens.

My lens post would not be complete without some images of the cat.

I got the exposure wrong on this but it still works (I think)

Lucky shot, she just turned and I had the right focus.

Back in the early 1980's before the internet, when I lived around the corner from where you are now, there was a mail-order used camera and lens service that advertised on the back page of "Australian Photography". It was Grace's Camera Bargains. I bought some Canon FD's from the older/younger Mr Grace during that time and I think my "collection" stood at 5 lenses. Nothing much wrong with that lens - ! It's a shame that it's taken three decades and the death of film photography for the Fuji lenses to get the recognition that they deserved. Maybe Fuji didn't help themselves back then by moving to their own bayonet system, but in the UK at least the popular photo press never went out of its way to flag-up how good the optics were.

I have no doubt about the quality of this lens...it does all that I want it to do. It is my only Fuji lens as I don't come across them all that often.

Fuji can design lenses! They really can!!

Hi Mo,

ah have several Fujinon lenses. They're my favourite lenses and like Minolta gear, are much ignored and under-appreciated. Ah think they're quite superb. Excuse the dust motes...all on film .

#1

Above - 3.5/135mm EBC, 1.8/55mm EBC, 1.8/55mm (non-EBC) and the much under-rated 3.5/28mm. Also have the 2.5/135mm, on extended loan with my nephew who's working in Australia atm.
Ah can see no difference (on film) between the EBC...non-EBC LENSES. Physically, a slightly blue-er, purplish tint tae the coating on EBC. Non-EBC is more brown, with a slight blueness. My non-EBC has the aperture lug on the body (s/n 543xxx), as do all my Fujinons. Ah only use them on my Fujica ST901,ah wouldn't butcher them for digital.

Some samples, all wide open, except the tree - minimal pp. AAAh Fuji greens and reds - what they were famous for!

Non-EBC 1.8/55mm

EBC 1.8/55mm

TAo2,
Some nice photos (thanks for posting film samples) and lenses. You are right about the way the reds and greens come across....very nice.
