Hello,
The topic might be a bit confusing, but what I would like to ask is if you have a Jupiter 8 + adapter or some other L39 mount lens + adapter on a NEX. I have two Jupiter 8s, one from the fifties and one from the seventies, together with a Kiwi brand adapter.
The lenses focus at infinity properly and do not go beyond. The "red line" on a lens is usually on top when on a camera, so that you can see where you are focusing by looking down on the lens. Aperture might be rather visible too. In this case the red line is approx 110 degress counterclockwise(to the right when looking at the lens and camera from above) so you have to turn the camera to see the current aperture and focus range.
I tried googling images of this combo but the results appeared inconclusive.
What say you? |

My L39-nex adapter consists of two rings: the inner (threaded) one is locked to the other by three screws. Loosening the screws would allow the inner ring to rotate, so you can mount the lens on the free ring, put it in the other ring in the correct position and tighten the screws again. Obviously you have to be sure you Will be able to lock the inner ring perfectly flat and at the same distance from the sensor as it was before rotating.
Or -since it is working ok for the important things- you can just leave it like it is now, and get used to that. _________________ C&C and editing of my pics are always welcome

Thanks for your advice.
My Kiwi adapter has three screw holes, but what's in them does not look like normal screws.
I was thinking of getting a Snapshot Skopar 25 / 4 and, well, if I did and it too sat turned to the right I'd also get another adapter.
The Kiwi icon on the adapter lines up perfectly at the top of the camera. |

There is a "noname chinese" adapter available on internet which works perfectly and has an adjustable ring .
You just need an Allen key. You cannot miss this cheap adapter : it has a black and white striped connection ring on the Nex side of the mount. |

I have a few that have no adjustment, now I only buy the type that memetph recommends and can adjust the position of the lens. _________________ Hero in the 'messin-with-cameras-for-the-hell-of-it department'. Official. |

Probably a hex head grub screw, buy another adapter for the odd threaded lenses so you don't have to keep changing the "clocking". _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...

Cheers for the advice. The are a few variants that look like that, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leica-M39-Screw-Mount-Lens-to-Sony-E-mount-NEX-Adapter-NEX-3-5-5N-C3-F3-7-A7-A7R-/231100428082?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item35cea8af32
as well as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leica-M39-Mount-to-NEX-E-Adapter-for-NEX-3-NEX-5-/121105618869?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item1c327517b5
for instance.
It is conceivable that Lightshow is right and that my Kiwi adapter has a 'grub' screw with a hex head. I'll acquire a set of Allen/hex keys and see. I had best get at least one other adapter too.. perhaps one of the ones listed above then. |

Tedat: Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can find one of those in Europe.
Philslizzy : Aha. This one didn't but I bought a set and the smallest one got those little grubs out and the Jupiters (well, the black one, the silver is a little better optically but as soon as it sits on an adapter the focus becomes so stiff I screw it loose from the adapter when attempting to focus) is now a little more user friendly.
I have a Skopar 25 on the way and hah, on one image on its auction page it's mounted with an adapter on a digital camera and the "red line" sure isn't where it's supposed to be.
So I'm happy you guys made me realize this could be fixed. |
