It's priced at about 40 times what its worth (edited, arithmetic was never my best subject)
not for me. Tacky

Goodness, it's terrible how some sellers take advantage of unsuspecting people like this. On the other hand, some of the buyers are quite willing. It reminds me of that old Hungarian saying you posted once, about "the mother of idiots being continuously pregnant". Is that how it went? In America they say "there's a sucker born every minute". _________________

The Rollei can be restored back to black no problem even if the original leathers are gone. It looks fun.
The Contax not so easily. The paint is chipped and will only chip more if it is used. Of course restored back to its original it will only be worth £250 not £10,000 _________________ Hero in the 'messin-with-cameras-for-the-hell-of-it department'. Official. |

o.k. folks, now I'm a bit pi..ed off:
Wanted to let You part in an extrem rarity, say camera porn!
2008 an Elfenbein Contax in mint went for 11.000€:
http://www.westlicht.com/event-galerie/14-westlicht-photographica-auction-am-30-november-2008/
http://www.westlicht.com/event-galerie/14-westlicht-photographica-auction-am-30-november-2008/bildgalerie/
And You are only talking about painting this goddess of cam black! A sin only to think about!
The seller of the ivory Contax is a more than reputated camera auctioneer, they deal also in other price categories:
http://leicarumors.com/2012/05/12/new-world-record-for-the-most-expensive-camera-2790000-usd-for-leica-0-serie.aspx/
....and You're talking 'bout some 10.000.-, ha ha
@mods: Is there a forum more fitting to my financial class?

Wouldn't mind having this nice Jena Contax!
There were a few original ones.
Some years ago, I had the 500 Zeiss Fernobjektiv for the contax mirror box in this painting. Bought it in Jena. It was so rough in condition because of heavy use, I resold it again.

I actually like the finish a bit.
The Ivory/off white enamel finish with black trim or chrome details is very attractive. It reminds me of quality Hewlett Packard test equipment, or maybe a 1960's Volvo. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Thanks to You mo!
..but I was making joke , I think we're here all in the (in)same situation.
@scsambrook: Ilford Advocate looks nice, I didn't know her yet, thanks!
I think at the post war time in GDR there was not enough chromium or black paint, so they decided to use, what they had. Short after they recieved perhaps chromium salts and went on as usual.
Was a hard time for all of our (grand-)parents, but people in that times were ingenious to take, what was availiable.
And some of these solutions lived out for decades, remember aluminium for Land Rovers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_Steer
and todays idiots are going to prohibit production of the LR after nearly 70 years:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2449593/Land-Rover-Defender-cease-production-2015.html
when I see "replacement" I'm going to barf under my car!
