Some month ago I bought a cheap focal reducer (EOS to Nex) from a seller positively cited here on the forum (c.kee).
I immediately discovered that it was not focusing at infinity, just very few meters. I arranged a return with the seller (kind), but... it was between work trips and vacations, and I forgot to send it back (my fault, not seller's).
So after some time I tried to adjust it but with no success. The focal reducer is one of those with screwed lens cell, so I tried to move it back and forth, but I did not find a satisfying position. I also tried to screw in /out the back element.
Any other suggestions? Maybe I could try to turn elements, one at a time... but if someone has an optical scheme maybe I could avoid mistakes. It is a pity because on short distances seems really not bad. Thanks. _________________

Ok, just writing about it gave me the courage to attempt again an intervention and now is ok
In the longest focusing distance position, the lens cell was hitting the body. However, I noticed that this was due to the last retaining ring, that cannot be screwed fully in. So I dismantled the lens cell, carefully aligned things, reassembled all, and now I can go slightly beyond infinity too. Glad owner of a cheap focal-turbo-meta-thing _________________

I'm glad you sorted it out. I'm happy with my Zhongyi version. I suspect there may have been an error in assembly. A pity you weren't able to send it back. _________________ Hero in the 'messin-with-cameras-for-the-hell-of-it department'. Official. |

Phil, yes, an error in assembly. One distance ring was slightly off, and due to the relatively strict tolerance, gave resistance when screwing in the last ring. It is ok now, and in the next days I will try it with some meaningful picture. At the end the focal reducer is slightly shorter than the EOS-Nex adapter, and this makes it even more convenient, apart from aperture gain. _________________
