Is FREEKING BRILLIANT!
I had previously used a Katseye and it would meter inaccurately all over the place. So much so one could not trust the brain in the camera at all.
I bought a blank EE-S screen from focusingscreen.com.. and well, It's brilliant. I image this chap buys the screens from canon (about $30) and cuts them down to fit. It's packaged in 3 layers of impressive air tight plastic, (complete with seamless bubble wrap!! It's the little things ok)
Anyway, to the point where I felt there was enough care and effort put in to justify the $90AU I ended up paying.
Now. My Pentax's meter is accurate!!! I have quickly tested it on a Super Tak 50 f1.4, 55 f1.8, 200 f4, and an A 50mm f1.7, all of which showed accurate center weight average exposure accross their entire range! Accurate exposure at f1.4 on my K10 was simply not possible previously. Some lenses under exposed, others over it was a real dogs breakfast. i had just assumed if one was to forgo the stock screen you would also forgo the accurate metering. How daft of me!
So right. My K10 feels brand new now with AV / TV / Exposure brain being useable
Now as for focusing, the darkness reported when you stop down the lens is no worse the Katseye i had previously, so no big deal (some folk were claiming it was unusable, i assume they are yet to have touched a MF SLR from the 80's )
Just for the internet gossip, I needed to use both of the shims provided, and I feel I could even get it more accurate still with a further one, may order one and see how it goes.
Simply put, the best piece of photographic I have ever bought. I don't know why I didn't do this years ago.
Oh! Agree with those that feel it's much easier to focus on a split prisim, I feel my eyes are working harder on the EE-S then they were on the kats. but having a proper exposure meter, you know like they should be, is a significantly better trade off |
