I do basic videos of weddings and functions and family movies. I am primarily a stills photographer but do video as an 'unofficial' extra on jobs. If it's good enough I can make a few more quid selling the DVD. I do basic edits and soundtracks in Windows Movie Maker and for me thats all I need. No fancy stuff.

However I have a video that the client wants but she wants a certain person edited out, Its not possible to edit him out of one crucial shot so I must resort to spot-blurring his face if at all possible.

Does anyone know of a very easy (preferably free) software that can do this?

You should find tons of tutorials (or even plugins) to do that using adobe Premiere, after effects or Sony Vegas.
The easiest way around would be duplicating the video layer, blurring the upper one and then drawing a loose animated mask on the blurred level thAt follows the guy's head.

Sony Vegas, Premiere, After effects. All need a certain level of competence to use. Tutorials on the net mostly use these, or software that buggers up your PC, I've searched and found nothing.

You need a program with motion tracking to do this nicely. After effects can do this, but the program has a pretty step learning curve if you havn´t used it before. An exception is if the camera, the subject stood still

How many seconds? Surprised

If I can get this thing to run faster perhaps I will use it.

several clips with the guy moving across the screen each lasting 2 or 3 seconds, then one for 5-6 seconds.

I have even tried blocking out his face using MovieMakers title function but thats too much on screen

Allright, that´s a hard and boring job to do without motion tracking (hard enough with motion tracking). You need to go frame by frame and manually set a keyframe when he is moving in Lightworks because there is no motion tracking ability. I´ve done lots of animation and can probably fix this for you if you think it´s to difficult Wink

Just PM me if you still need help Very Happy

Thanks for your offer. It is not just the one clip that this needs doing on I have several. This particular one will make me money if I do it and this is what has persuaded me to look at doing it. . The others are clips that I would put on facebook or youtube if certain persons didnt object to me doing it.

Motion tracking is not necessary because the faces I want blurring out typically are on screen for 1-1.5 seconds at most in a given shot I say 2-3 and 5-6 secs above but thats how long the shot lasts, the persons face may be in and out of the shot but enough its for them to object..

I downloaded Permiere CS2 and After Effects CS2 free from Adobe. It is a very steep learning curve. I didnt actually manage to open a video in Premiere even after trying for half an hour. And it moves my files around. What a PITA!

I think that free trial versions of Sony Vegas also are complete versions that stop working after some 3 months or so.
here is the place to download:

Thanks. But I think I will stick with after Effects - that is if it can do what I want.
