Hi guys i wanted to ask a quick question. what is the difference between the canon 50mm f1.2 LTM version and the Canon 50mm f1.2 FD version. I know they are for different camera systems. And my question is not from the physical dimensions perspective. I am asking about the differences in IQ,Bokeh, etc. If a person wants to buy any of the two then which one should be bought(irrespective of price). ?

24 years, the optical formula and almost everything.
Which one ?
Both ?
The newest is the closest to modern tastes (not a surprise).

Yes the 50/1.2 LTM is supposed to be rather soft wide open with enormous bokeh ^^
But SLR 50/1.2 are not very sharp aswell wide open but better I suppose.

The RF version has more spherical aberrations I believe, the FD is quite decent, the SSC Aspherical is razor sharp and well corrected, as is the FDn L.

I have both, actually 3 in f1.2: canon RF ltm 50/1.2, canon FD and canon FL. All three have sharpness in the same degree. Contrast is acceptable at f1.2.

The canon RF ltm 50/1.2 is most easy to use due to long focus throw, but minimum focus distance is 1m, the others have shorter.
RF version is tiny when compare to 50-55/1.2 lenses, most expensive of all 50-55/1.2 I have, also maybe the sharpest, but also maybe I use nex focus aid tools and it's long focus throw.

At f2.0, it really stands out for 3D/pop rending, rich color and contrast, but so do the most 1.2 lenses Very Happy

I also like the older FL version better than the FD ssc plastic.

Get the ltm version if you have a choice.
