It's equally possible there might have been some camera shake but the slight linear movement consistent across different stars seems to suggest long exposure... I'm not a skilled astrophotographer by any means - I decided that ISO 8000 and a 2 second exposure gave me adequate results for my quick and dirty shots. I was on a tripod but I don't have a ball head, so I positioned my tripod in a weird way to shoot straight up (I'm realizing I could have mounted my camera differently and rotate one of my planes 90 degrees to aim straight up) and had tried to hold in place, and shot with a 2 second timer.
I'll be doing more research on how to better aim and expose as I think I could get into this. with a 2x tele on my APS-C body I'd have an effective full frame coverage of 1500mm, but I don't know how much the tele might degrade the image. More research on higher quality converters (I've got a basic vivitar 2x tele). _________________ Digital Bodies: Canon 5D Mk I, Sony A6000

You picked up Saturn's rings almost clearly in the first image. Lens must be in very good condition.
Some stars and planets track faster than Luna. Jupiter's storm bands are doable with a clean 500 mirror, and upper quality 2X teleconverter.
Tamron made one that has a bit of a good reputation in a few places.
There's a few posts around here on lunar shots with mirrors, with a bit of exposure information in the discussions.

I got a Tamron 52B (90mm 2.5 macro) and Didn't realize it's only true 1:1 with a good 7 element converter or the custom extension tube.... The Tamron and Tokinas are the one's I'm looking at for 2x, I'm open for suggestions on other quality converters to look out for. _________________ Digital Bodies: Canon 5D Mk I, Sony A6000

Bravo capturing those rings! The tilt is almost edge-on now...
The Vivitar 100mm 1:2.8 MC 1:1 Macro Telephoto (Kiron) is pretty good -- goes to 1:1 without any TC or extension due to "built-in TC" design, quite similar to Tamron 90mm. Comes ion many "brands" such as Lester Dine, Kiron and of course Vivitar. _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

I do have the Vivitar (Komine) 55mm f/2.8 Macro which also is 1:1 on it's own - I'll get around to posting a few shots from that as well. _________________ Digital Bodies: Canon 5D Mk I, Sony A6000

a lens with a '532' serial as above, appears to have a quite well known maker, and was sold by a camera manufacturer as well. |
