Helios 44?

PostPosted: Tue Sep 24, 2013 7:34 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I had to guess that one first because that lens is so plentiful and low-cost that people use it for DIY projects.

Check out what this guy did with a helios 44:

Peculiar, is the one you use as avatar Wink

Anyway the DIY is absolutely non destructive

Is just a plastic disc inserted cut in size to fit in the screw cap

Was trying to get a more "usable" feel to this lens

You should put it in-between elements! Proper Cyclop, cool.

That's so funny because I've been spending so much time myself lately with Cyclop experiments.

I just did this one today:

Large element Neewer 0.43x wide angle attachment with 72mm thread size attached using 67 to 72 step up ring.

CHEAP lens...so I expected cheap results...I spent about $15 for this attachment.

They do make this attachment in 67mm as well but I found the 72mm for much cheaper so I went with that.

Makes it a little wider angle...closer focus...swirly bokeh seems completely gone...and most obviously...EXTREME GLOW

Here's what happens with the attachment:

Soon I'll try putting an aperture in there and see how much this glow can be controlled/modified .

The excessive glow even in normal condition was the main reason I'm trying to put a smaller aperture on this lens
