Macro Stack Stack Stacking Stack? (Mac, GNU/GPL?)

Hey Brains trust,

Got me a shiny shiny macro lens and I want to have a go stacking the 20odd shots In effort to have a play. Brief internet search suggests the plugin G'MIC (https://gmic.eu/) is what I need to get started with whilst using GIMP.

I'm having a hell of a time building the QT version of the program to be able to use it. GIMP and GMIC installed with brew, but brew doesn't seem to come with the QT version of GMIC. So of to their git page to follow their instructions; (https://github.com/GreycLab/gmic-qt) Oh complaining about all this from a M2 mini with macOs 15.5

...and still no dice, can't get it to compile with either instructions. At this point i must be missing something, it can't be this hard, so, on the off chance that someone has been here done this before,... Help?

I'm not wedded to GMIC either, it was just what kept coming up in searches, if there is another method for auto stacking macro images with GIMP I'd love to know.

What do you all do?

Some folks are using Helicon Focus on Linux using Wine. There's always https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=linux%20focus%20stacking

I've been playing around with https://github.com/noah-peeters/ChimpStackr a bit.
