All you need is a pinhole lens body cap, which is about $1 to make.

I use a normal lens, fully stopped down, pointing at the sky - cost $0

+1, this is exactly what I do to find sensor dust.

I just find it when I'm not looking for it at f16

A lens stopped down to f16 and smaller will find most of the dirt, yes. I had my sensor cleaned to the point that no dust showed at f16. Then I checked again with the pinhole and found just as much dirt as I'd just cleaned off.
