All i can say: it's really a lovely lens! If you get the opportunity to get one, do it.

Used it on a weekend trip last week with the family, when i just got it. Here are some examples, first one is at f/4, the other 3 are all at f/2.8. It became an instant favorite!!

Nice samples, it seems a good one.

I'd be curious to see how it compares to the kaleinar 5, since I was not certain about which to buy of the two.
Then I got a chance to buy a kaleinar for €25, and went for that.

Thank you, i guess it's a good copy indeed!

I have never seen a Kaleinar 5 for sale, over here that is, but from some quick samples i have seen just now on the net it seems a very interesting lens.... (that damn thing called GAS hits me again....) Very Happy

I had both lenses , they are pretty much same , Meyer smaller and my better built.

These Meyer lenses have no copy variation issue all excellent if may not that lens is tampered, wrongly rebuilt etc.
I had several copies all was same.

Nice photo of the kitten.

Is this lens the same as the Pentacon 2.8/100? I have that one.

These samples look great! I want that lens Smile

The older lenses have a lot less contrast. Compare this to a modern 100mm prime and you'll see what I mean. Although the modern lens will look more crisp, there is something that the older glass seems to have.

#2 suits this lens best of the bunch I think. I'm not sure the cat pic is what this lens will do best at as the detail is no quite there.

Nice results and smooth bokeh, will be looking for this lens! Definitely trumps Trioplan IMHO.

The Trioplan is a love/hate type of lens. It's one of my favourite and most used, but I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Perhaps yours has more aperture blades. Mine only has six.

There are at least two types of the Orestor, the Zebra type with 14 blades and the Orestor equal to the Pentacon Wink

Edit: there is also two Zebra types, so at least 3 different designs.

The 5-element ORESTOR 2,8/100mm Sonnar type, is still an excellent little lens, which I love to use!

It also depends on the camera (sensor). Most legacy lenses were very contrast-poor on my E-P1.
But on the Fuji X-E1 they produce a lot more contrast.

But reason could be grease condensation residues so frequently found on Pentacons and very much age related. Clean that off and Mayer / Pentacon still rocks!

Not the sharpest lens out there, but with very nice rendering. Stopped down, the bokeh (with my sample) is pretty weird, due to the not-rounded aperture blades, but at f/2.8-4 it's very pleasent.

Example, f/2.8 and 5.6
