Excellent presentation, thankyou.

Even if the sharpness is a little less than perfect, I love the way this lens renders, both macro and micro contrast look first rate, so the images have depth and objects have a dimensionality, and the bokeh is perhaps the best I've seen from a zoom.

I really like what I see, maybe now I regret not buying the old non-ED version of this I saw recently.

I've owned the Ai-S and non-AI versions of this. They really are two completely different lenses. I wouldn't advise the non-AI, non-ED version.

The Ai and Ai-S ED versions, on the other hand, are marvelous! Heavy darn things, but really sharp. I carried it on a few hikes, but thank goodness they weren't very long!
