The 'Hand of God' was what Maradona's goal against England was called... Smile

Yes, the hand made a fine difference. Plus that Bulbul rocks. Sharp as a knife!

I will have to make sure that my lens hood is always with me. Nice shots!

is the lens multicoated?

Yes, the Vivitar 90-180 has multicoated optics. Here's a brief but informative description of this rather unique zoom:

I often use my free hand to block the sun's rays. The technique works very well.

I think I need to get my hands on this lens and put it to work on dragonflies.

Ive done the hand hood trick myself a few times but the problem with it is you have to handle
the lens/camera with only one hand and it becomes unstable.

Not always. Usually I find that, if I'm using my hand to shield the lens from extraneous light rays, the sun is bright. That translates into a higher shutter speed, greater depth of field, or both. Using the good old "sunny f/16 rule," at ISO 100, I can be shooting handheld at 1/500 second at f/8. That's plenty good enough for most lenses.

And if it isn't, well, then one should have a tripod or monopod handy.

I do practically all the time. Specially on the P&S
