Although I don't have a Sears 55/1.4 to exactly tell, but from the pictures of the Auto Reflex above they look similar in appearance, are they by any chance related or exact copy even?

How about the Porst Color Reflex 55/1.4? Tomioka? Chinon? So many names in the M42 world Laughing

Got revueflex (=quelle) 55/1.8
looks similar
of course just another brand

The focus girdle is funny, it is probably metal (from the looks at the sides and scale which is one piece) but the girdle riffling itself looks and feels plasticy. Only small dents in it look metalish again.. maybe aluminium coated with something.

Probably perfect with small slr or nex. not a pancake but very small compared even to "light" lenses like MAF 35-70/4

Here's a quick shot of my Rikenon 1.4/55. Looks the same to me.....

1.8 only 220 g with caps
Well, (18/14)² = 1.65 fits nicely...

Saw a 800/8 lately for sael. maaan that is some serious lens.
The big brother of the 500/8 but well spyglass design just doesn't cut it for 800. That lens is so big it comes in parts.

Finally got around to shooting with it. It's still hampered by the stupid hama adaptor being too thick.

Wide open!

This is 100% crop (wide open!)

Very pleasant surprise. I think i have lenses that are worse stopped down.

Plenty of detail it seems. Get used to process a bit. Lens is single coated.

Here some samples of auto reflex 55mm at "critical" apertures .... only resize.

shows that f1,4 it´s a bit soft and at f2,0 and f2,8 the diference is almost imperceptible.

The Rikenon is sharp enough wide open, just use it wide open when it is needed, in bad light conditions. The following picture was shot either at f/1.4 or f/2.0, nothing more, and is not sharpened in PP! I think it is a great performer, if you'd like to see a comparison, there are some pictures in my flickr stream which i shot at the same night (in the same set "people"), using the Minolta MD, also at f/1.4 or f/2.0.

And a completely different Rikenon 1.4/55 wide-open shot:

Usualy my RAW files go through LR4, but i never do a lot of PP, they are both not sharpened, first one might be cropped, i don't remember, it's been too long ago!

I'd have to look up the original RAW file to check, but there won't be a lot of difference!

Hi

I own this lens in Rikenon brand - 55mm 1.4, mine is sharp wide open, at least sharper than my Auto Revuenon 55mm 1.7 or Porst Color Reflex 50mm 1.7 wide open.

Here you have some shots wide open taken with Rikenon 55mm 1.4
I could've missed focus point some time (white daisies for example) or some photos would do better with wider DOF (snail - DOF is so narrow that even whole snail didn't fit in).
Photos are simple JPGs straight out of the Canon 600d body, without any PP (didn't have time to take care of RAW files, yet. sorry).

Really fall love in this lens, however it's not perfect of course. Nevertheless I am probably shooting too much photos at f/1.4 Very Happy, but give me some time, I have this lens for about a weak only.
