Today I found a Konica Minolta AR 50mm f1.7 lens in my old lenses camera bag.
Some photos with it on Olympus OM-D:

Two close up:

Two some kind of portrait:

One street style or some kind with a big crop and nice coffe cup:

And one landscape:

Some kind of crop from the picture above:

Focus ring is very smooth, easy focus on OM-D, I only need some time to go throught the proces of focusing. So no actions with this lens and me Very Happy

Hexanons are very good lenses on a film camera, but I find it difficult to see the difference between 50mm f1.7, 50mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.4 stopped down (only rarely use a lens WO), although I can see the 40mm is just not razor sharp like the 50mms.

Not all the 1,7 version have the same rendering. The same in the 1,4 lenses. Take the old 1,7 with little letters and numbers at the front only, and see the images taken with it. Perhaps the best of all. IMHO.

A general statement for many lenses and many brands.
Don't bother with a fast lens if you intend to use it stopped down Wink

Well yes, I suppose 16X20" prints by a professional printer or examining negs or pos with a loupe would show a difference as the 50mm f1.7 is supposed to be top dog.

In 70s the Japanese almost took the physical limits of the design double gauss, regarding the focal standard. Each brand competing to offer the best in 50mm. The results touched perfection and Hexanon AR 50/1.7 is a good example. There may be better lenses at the time, but this will be very difficult to prove... or impossible if you use f/2.8.

I fear that the differences, if any, must be sought under each pixel Very Happy

Happy shots, you have a great lens!

I have a question about Hexanons.
How is Hexanon AR 1:3,5/28mm compared to this 50mm? Is it worth, let's say 40€? Is optical same/close/or not even close to 50mm?

I have lot of 50-58mm, 135 and 200mm manual lenses. I need something in wide angle, but on mFT everything is x2. A 28mm would be a better wolk around lens for landscape then 50mm.

Ok, I have "normal auto focus" lenses, but let's manual is more interesting.

Hi!

DR.JUAN: Can you provide or point to pictures that show what you mean here? I'm confused. Or can someone else enlighten me please?

Thanks!

Yes, the m43 camera's have really come of age. The next releases will even have focus peaking.

The Hexanon 28mm f3.5 is a very good lens on a film camera for landscapes and general photography, but wouldn't think as sharp as the Hexanon 50mm f1.7 but whether you can see the difference for normal results is debatable .......as for what it's worth for a digital camera? Well if it gets too expensive and is equal to the prices of Zuiko, Miinolta etc then someone would have to do some comparison shots for sharpness, bokeh and so on and then decide.

I removed all unnecesary parts from 50mm and cuted away parts of mount, to fit 4/3 mount, then using 4/3 to m43 adapter. But I'm not gona do this to 28mm. This one is like new. No damage to lens.
