I used a Fuji IR-84 TAC filter on the rear of my Nikkor 15/5.6 (clip installed, see below)... The Fuji IR-84 filter has a sharp cut to 90% at 900nm so it is probably more like a 900nm filter than an RG-850.. also, the live view is everything i could have hoped for providing a realtime means of focus shift correction by eye for the first time (used to be quite an iterative process).
Nikon D300S, Fuji IR-84 TAC,Nikkor-QD.C 15mm f/5.6
1/40s f/11.0 at 15.0mm iso200
1/40s f/11.0 at 15.0mm iso200
1/40s f/11.0 at 15.0mm iso200
and with a hoodman loupe the cam looks quite interesting.. and generated much interest from onlookers.
with lens clip modification (this version came with built-in filters so this clip had to be added)

i wasn't quite right about the FUJI TAC filter.. the IR-84 passes 900nm around 78%.. i would like to find a US (or otherwise) source for these filters... i can't understand why they are not advertised in the US when the packaging is in english.

I am not definitely a fan of IR photography for a couple of reasons:
1 - I simply do not understand basics
2 - I have no need to take such a pictures
but ..I must say these pictures can change my mind
These are simply awesome. I particularly love BW version
and the Nikon 15 ! Oh my god! What a diamond!

So does your sensor need to be an IR sensor or can you take IR photography by simply putting a piece of 900nm glass between your sensor and subject? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/hancockDavidM |

yes... the sensor is full spectrum (the stock UV/IR cut filter which permits visible light photography has been removed).. so the sensitivity of the cameria is now from near-UV (320nm) to near-IR (1200nm).. an external filter adjusts which wavelengths are passed to the sensor.. in this case as you mentioned i used an acetate filter at the rear of the lens held by the clip in the picture. _________________ --bob
