Got bored so tested few mf lenses, all done with canon 7d with flash off camera and bounced from the ceiling. All pics are taken with lenses wide open at minimum focus distance. I have tried to focus at Minolta logo of X700, no pp.
1. Chinon 200mm F3.5, focused at ~2.7m, missed focus slightly and focused at body cap, overall not too bad but not brilliant. With adding some contrast this lens can go a long way. Minimal focus distance is rather big one.
2. Tamron 85-210 F4.5, model cz-210 at 85mm, focus at ~1.8m, great bokeh good contrast and sharpness very pleased
3. Tamron 85-210 F4.5, model cz-210 at 210mm, focus at ~1.8m, absolutely terrible, lots of CA, complete lack of contrast, gets much better with pp but far from the best
4. Makinon 135mm F2.8, focused at ~1.8m, very good surprisingly, cheap lens, some CA, sharp good contrast, very usable, like this lens
5. Helios 58mm F2.0, focused at ~0.5m, no surprise there, some CA, bokeh not the best in the world, good sharpness and contrast, nice lens
6.Pentacon 50mm F1.8, focused at ~0,3m, very close focusing lens very good sharpness, good contrast very usable from wide open, very like this lens
7. Takumar 35mm F3.5, focused at ~0.45m, astonishing lens, great sharpness, contrast, bokeh form wide open, easy to use, light, superb lens, close focusing
8. Helios 28mm F2.8, focused at ~0.3m, like this lens very much, very good sharpness and contrast, very close focusing, small and light, maybe not as sharp as takumar but you compare 2.8 to 3.5. Really underused lens and very cheap one.
9. Whole scene shot with helios 28mm at F8
If you got to this point thank you very much, if you enjoyed it please leave comment below. I know that you cannot compare so different lenses together and all of them wide open but I did because I felt like it _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/34787419@N08/

Useful test. Some days ago i found that Pentacon has also a short minimal focus distance. I found 35cm +/-.
One think that made me sad when commuting between 7D and 5DII is that's not possible to use the Takumar 3.5/35mm in a FF camera, the lens hits the mirror miserably.
So, i had to sell the lens to fill the range gap with another lens,
