Hi there,
As some of you might remember a few week back out beloved forum member Nordentro A.K.A Lars was giving away lenses that had issues. I was lucky enough to snatch this nice little Sigma lens .
The lens in general looked like new when I took it into my hands. However there were 2 issues with it :
1. Aperture was not working
2. There were some sort of condensation marks in one of the elements.
When I`ve started to fix it, I instantly ran in to an obstacle - the screws did not unscrew . After several minutes of almost destroying the screws I`ve managed to get the back opened, disables the auto aperture and made it full manual in order to use it on my DSLR.
After that I`ve entered the glasses and to my surprise the condensation marks turned out to be coating corrosion. I know that this is a rather common issue and I am not sure if this will effect picture quality very drastically, but I`ve took everything back together and made my first shots.
My first impression was that this lens looks great on my pentax K-X . It handles very well and feels right in your hands. I`ve made a couple of shots inside, right after the surgery to see how sharp it is. And it`s sharp. Even at f2.8 it shows nice sharpness and both the bokeh and DOF is very pleasant. So here are my firs test shots. All of them where made at ISO 500 so slight noise might be visible.
f2.8
f4
f5.6
another f2.8 shot
I`ve really enjoyed the lens so far and will take it out side to do a more proper test.
Thank you again Lars for this little fun lens _________________ I have many great Russian cameras and lenses for sale on my ebay account, please check it out: http://www.ebay.com/sch/piksius/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p3686

I'm very encouraged by this thread. Thank you, Drack.
I have concentrated more on the Mini-Wide II lenses, though I do own also a Mini-Wide. The Mini-Wide lenses seem to be more readily available and, possibly, a bit less expensive. Up close focus and macro features on both varieties are very nice. So now perhaps with such a good report and impressive photos I will look more closely when I see Mini-Wides for sale. |

I did have a Super-wide II in minolta MD mount a while back. I`m kinda sad i`ve sold it. After i did, I saw the results that I`ve managed to get with my X-700 and they were very nice ! A pure landscape/street lens it was.
If everything goes well I think that this might achieve results just like that one. These little sigma`s are surely worth while _________________ I have many great Russian cameras and lenses for sale on my ebay account, please check it out: http://www.ebay.com/sch/piksius/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p3686

I seek out Sigma Super-Wide MF lenses literally every day. They are out of reach for me so far and I've never owned one. They are very, very expensive, costing perhaps 4X to 5X the cost of a Mini-Wide. If I ever obtain one in decent shape, I will never sell it.
Maybe some day. |

Given two lenses, in similar condition, same mount, at the same price, one lens a Mini-Wide and the other a Mini-Wide II, I would still buy the Mini-Wide II because:
Newer lens
Possibly better coatings
Possibly better optical design
Etc.
However:
Drack has proven the Sigma Mini-Wide is an excellent option nevertheless.
My (near mint) Mini-Wide II in m42 was expensive.
Recently picked up a nice Mini-Wide II in Canon FD for small money (<US$20).
My Mini-Wide in K/AR was also inexpensive.
I plan to keep them. They are all cool lenses. |
