Which Mount?

I recently purchased a Pentacon 30mm f3.5 on eBay. The seller was unsure as to which mount the lens was and upon receiving it I am also unsure. At first I thought it was an M42 mount but it does not appear to have a screw thread? If anyone has any ideas as to what this might be I would be very grateful to hear.

Not sure if the pictures are working properly as this is my first post on here.

I don't know the lens, but it looks like it could be missing the mount part: i say this because of the empty holes on the back, the exposed "leg" that should link the movement of the focusing ring to the helicoid, and because the rear part seem to protrude too much.

Is this something that can be replaced easily? Or would it be a case of using this lens for spare parts now?

If you find the part (i.e. from a non working copy), I think it would be just as easy as screwing three screws.
if you find the exact thickness of the missing part you can try and arrange something, maybe with some macro tubes: anything that will put a mount you like to the correct distance: parts from other lenses, plastic tubes, whatever.
My first option would be trying to find a cheap damaged copy of the lens and remove the mount from that.

I have the same lens in M42 mount. It is identical to yours but someone has removed the mount ring from your one which attaches to the lens with three screws. If you can find a non-working lens its just a matter of swapping the mount.

Thanks for your help. Should be an interesting side project for me

If you wait around for a while someone here must have a used mount they may be willing
to let you have. Someone is bound to have a few lenses passed their sell by date.

Just hang on to it, someone will have a broken one you can use. I had a Tessar with a lens element missing. I was offered two on this forum and now its working...

...or perhaps make a mount for your camera, its the type of thing I'd do if its value is very little, with the mount missing you could make an adapter to fit it on anything from a Nikon to a NEX.

willsbrown,
as others already said, you need the mount part - have a look at the attached photo (and please, ignore the uneven lighting, I quickly took it with bounce flash).

Or, you can get the cheapest 5$ M42-to-your-camera-mount adapter, drill three conical holes into it, underlay it with a spacer ring of approx. 3.9mm thickness
(I would cut several cardboard rings and stack them for first try - advantage: you can adjust infinity by adding/removing rings) and screw the whole setup
to the lens by M2x4 screws with the conical head. I hope somebody else will confirm the screws have the metric pitch, I only guess it (as the Pentacon lens was made in Germany).

(EDITED: some typos, and formatting)
