Hi folks!

No new lens, but finally a working Nikon/M42 adapter with an infinity focus correction lens.
Just a test picture so far, but it doesn´t look that bad I think.

What do you think so far? Of course there´s more to come from this lens.

Not at all!

Thanks, Attila! I should have noted that it was taken @F2,8!

Exclamation And now I just found why this picture is lacking a bit of the brilliance I expected. Idiot me left the D50 on ISO400... By this I also wasted potential of some tripod shots with the Mamiya/Sekor SX 35mm F2,8 which has finally arrived today (along with MSX1000, 55mm F1,8, 135mm F2,8 ). I haven´t tried the later ones, but the 35er looks very promising so far (just scanning some RAW files...).
You´ll see tomorrow.

Greetings and good night
Benedikt

It has very nice bokeh especially from a wide-angle lens.

The Mamiya Sekor M42s are highly underrated lenses, which is kind of strange since they have a famous name.

I think if you can get a good M42-"corrected"-Nikon-adapter, the results can be pretty close to the lens performance itself.

I think the relative lack of success of the Maimya 35's and how long it's been since they were produced means they unfairly slip under the radar.

I haven't tried any of these corrected mounts - have you got a mount without a correction lens to do some comparison shots with?

Yes, I´ll make some when I find time.

That looks like a seriously nice lens. Maybe worth looking at? Hmm - this forum is so bad. Thanks Benedikt

That´s my opinion too.
But due to this fact, I could get a mint-version (2/50) for 1 Euro (!) plus 4 Euro delivery Laughing at EBay! Very Happy

My 28mm is a leftover from my mother´s defunct MSX500, and I payed 101€ incl. shipping for a working MSX1000, 35mm F2,8, 55mm F1,8 and 135mm F2,8.
On German eBay, the Mamiyas are getting more expensive. I saw a 28mm for over 80€ and a 35mm for around 40. But I got a 135mm F2,8 for 8€ + 4€ shipping which I handed over to a friend of mine since the 135mm was included in my MSX1000 package.

A new one from the 28mm, I just had a look over some shots I made yesterday, and I´m afraid, my M42/Nikon adapter causes awful problems (internal reflections between adapter lens and rear lens) when there are bright light sources.

This is one of the few images that worked out more or less as expected, but you can already see the problems at the chrome letters at my car´s back.

I could show you much worse examples, but I think I´ll do that later.
What a pity I´m still waiting for a hama M42/Nikon adapter which is said to be pretty decent lens quality...

By the way, does anyone have an idea why the apterure ring of the Mamiyas isn´t working when attached to the adapter? There was some special kind of construction I think, attached to the MSX1000 it works perfectly. Is there any trick to get it working with the adapter?
At the moment I´m only shooting at F2,8 Rolling Eyes

Hi, I don't know this lens - does it have a pin projecting from the rear of the thread mount? If so, this pin needs to kept pushed in to make the aperture ring work - maybe your adapter isn't pushing it?

If the lens has an auto/manual switch, the aperture should work OK if you set it on manual. If not then you probably need a different type of adapter with a flange to keep the pin pushed in.

Now things begin to make sense...

The Mamiyas have that pin, but no switch like for instance my 135mm Vivitar has. So one of my adapters (the one with the crappy correction lens, "KOOD Japan") doesn´t push that pin and allows the Mamiya to be screwed in correctly, and the other one (Jolos) blocks that pin and stops the lens a 2/3 turn before reaching the correct position, therefor infinity focus doesn´t work.

Perhaps I should try modifying the Jolos adapter...

Here are 2 new ones from the 28mm.

I just love these colours, but again there are problems with bright light (see the second one). I really hope it´s the M42 adapter´s lens, the coating looks cheap in my opinion.

Let me know what you think. Both were shot at F2,8!

I would suspect the converters element is the source of the problem.

It seems a good lens despite the converter though.

Seems this is a very nice lens, colors are so great!

This time I can´t believe my eyes. No bright light = no problems, and these colours are to die for. Additionally, this special kind of sharpness and roundness at the same time, I can´t really describe it.

(Taken yesterday afternoon at the right-hand side of the river Rhine in Düsseldorf-Himmelgeist).

That's looking a very good M42 28mm...

Hi everyone!

After some time, here´s a little update from the 28mm SX.

The picture shows the corner of a shopping centre in my hometown Solingen which was built in the late 60s, and it´s going to be demolished and replaced by something new by the end of the year. A very sad story I would have a lot to tell about. I think I´ll start a gallery thread about this when I find the time, but for the moment, take a look at these COLOURS!

I just don´t know what to say. Again there is this bokeh which is a little special, and these shades of cyan and blue which i have never seen before with this intensity. Looks like the Mamiya has set my D50 to analogue mode... Cool
