Hi,
does anyone have this lens? Should I give it a try? I have seen some fun results but two questions

1. are these predictable in the send to know where and how "distortion" would hit you
2. is the same kind of behaviour something that one can simulate in photoshop?

Regards
A

My first MF lens, you should get it, only 35$US so cheap, no matter how it'll perform Razz

Hi thanks for the nice answers.

I was thinking for the 35

what do you have already, what is your interest ? choice of focal length is very subject dependent.

Get the 35mm, i use it on NEX-6. It's really cool for video. I bought the silver version.

Mine flares badly, but apart for this , is nice. I also bought a rubber hood, that slightly reduces the flare.

I used a lot on my Nex-3 . That's very far to be a very good lens, but it's fun to use, for a very low price.

It has interesting bokeh, and blury edges.

Give 25 and 35 mm a try, but avoid 50 mm. 50 works only when aperture is closed "a bit" to 1.8.

Distortion and blur is rather predictable. With 25 mm be careful with focusing object close to the edge - it might be out of focus...
I presume you can achieve everything in PS, but the question is how much time you'd like to spend on it Wink

Here you can see all my tests on M4/3 camera - Lumix G2:

Personally - I love 25 and 35 mm. I've taken some outdoors wedding shots for befriended couple with 25 and they were amazed. It's definitely fun to use, but it won't work for every task. I treat it as "an effect" lens.

Oh yes! Those C-mount lenses are perfect for square photos. I've taken some that way and I love that look!

Looking through that previous thread, I would say that this lens displays strong field curvature. Off centre sharpness is possible, but not at the same time as centre sharpness at the same distance. This could be exploited a bit like a tilt shift lens, i.e. different objects at different distances in focus at the same time. Maybe someone would like to run a test - set the camera up with a fixed focus and move objects in mid frame and off centre around until they are all in focus.

I think that's why I use the square format. I don't run into that too often as I can off center focus but not get the center oof.
