Hello,

I've always been an AF lens consumer, but I'm getting more interested for vintage lenses... Some of them have impressive results!

This said, I've been keeping an eye in some Exakta lenses, but have read many (and contradictory) stuff. so, in my EOS camena - 1.6x crop camera - will I have some problem to attach an Exakta mount?

Which adapters would you recommend?

PS - if the text is not well written, my apologies as english is not my native language.

Best regards.

I have some exacta lentes and I am also a Canon eos user... Have the right adapter, but unfortunately cannot full use the lentes on 5d2. I experienced mirror issues or cannot fill entirely the frame without black areas!
I am affraid you should have some troubles even if using aps-c Canon eos without some lens modification.
Anyway other users can better guide you in thia matter.

Thank you...
Anyone else with some experience with exakta lenses and aps-c bodies?

from what I am led to believe *SOME* exakta lenses can have their mounts swapped for M42, if you find a lens that you like you may want to research whether this can be done to that particular lens.

Keep in mind the 2 styles of Exakta lenses. Old-fashioned "auto" lenses with the protruding knob won't mount on Canon bodies. You could jury-rig something, but no chance of hitting infinity.

Exakta lenses without the knob can get infinity on Canon bodies. If I get a chance I'll post samples.

I've been using Topcor lenses(RE 58/1.8 & R 135/3.5 preset) on my NEX-7, so far they're awesome.

One of the lens that I want to buy badly is a Meyer Trioplan 100mm 2.8.
Here's a image:

So, it doesn't have the protruding knob, it might focus to infinity (which is not a problem, once i'll focus mostly to subjects that are close - 1.5meters +/-).

Any tips?

Tony, I believe in that also, but m42 mount aren't so abundant in the market... I'ld prefer a m42 to, but...

M42 adapters to EOS are cheap and work great. Check Ebay....

Nothing wrong with the exakta mount lenses for cropped EOS.
Non automatic ones will work properly and will not hit the mirror.
You just need to figure out which adapter to take in order to achieve infinity focus without need to adjust the lens.

Adjustment of the lens is also possible but require a technician which has to do it. For example on the 4/135 sonnar there is an adjustment ring (calibrated in factory) which can be reduced on lathe with part of a millimeter and the lens is OK.

I believe you should look for a M42 version since prices are "almost" identical for the model you shown above...

Please note:
I have Trioplan 2.8/100mm in M42 and also in Exakta mount.
The Exakta version is not like the picture you posted, and do have the 'protruding knob'. (The M42 version is like your picture and works great on Canon).
Regarding my trioplan in Exakta version (black and with protruding knob) i cannot adapter sucessfully on canon 5D2 and hardly you will sucessfull use it on 7D...

There seems to be several versions of the 2.8/100 Trioplan in Exakta mount. On Ebay right now there's a couple of black "zebras" with auto knob, and a couple of different all-silver styles, some with auto knob and some without.

Definitely don't buy before getting a good pic of the lens mount.

Exakta lensess with auto knobs represent one of the last bargains on the 'Bay, motivated me to buy a functional Exakta body and a NEX.

The black zebra 2.8/100 N Trioplan in Exakta mount can be mounted on a EOS Crop camera ( i have 20D and it works just fine).
The auto arm on this lens is thinner and also flexible and it doesn't interfere with the adapter which is the problem with the other auto lenses. It doesn't hit the mirror also.

On the adapter there are 2 mounting positions marked with red dot. it the arm is obstructing with the flash/prism you can turn the lens on the other side.

The problem is that with mine adapter it can reach maximum 20 meters.
btw this zebra lens is different than the early one and doesn't have the same wild bokeh - just the glowing softness at 2.8.

By the way, any advice towards the adapter to Exakta?
I've seen some with lock systems, AF confirmation, etc...

Would be nice to have some feedback in this subject.

Hi, my Exakta adapter came today and it appears to reach infinity or at at least very close. I think it is a good adapter.
It holds the lens on firmly to my Canon T3.
It is a difficult to turn the lens onto the adapter, but perhaps that can be adjusted. I will ask about that later when I post some photos
using it.
Part of what makes it difficult is that it is pretty thin(needed to reach infinity on the Canon) and feels like it is cutting into my hand when I try to twist it on. Still the adapter seems sturdy enough.
You have to put the adapter on the lens before putting it on the camera. With my M42's I screw them on to the adapter while it is on the camera.
It was recommended by someone else that it would reach infinity.
I am using it with my Exakta lenses and I am happy with it's performance.
I used it with a CZJ Flektagon 35mm lens which had the auto aperture arm on it. I removed the arm according to the instructions of another forum member and it works fine.
Here is the link. Please check around for other adapters first. Smile
