The only good Petri I've found is the earlier bayonet 1.8/55. The later M42 and PK mount Petris are made by Cosina and range from mediocre to awful.

This one looks so bad it's probably assembled incorrectly.

My copy looks brand new but you might be right about the assembling.

My 45mm f2.8 CC Auto was crap as well..but did like the Petri MF-1 camera even though it was cheaply made...but couldn't solve an intermittent light leak so stripped it for spare screws.

The MF-1 is a Cosina too, the bayonet mount Petris are good, well made like other 1960s SLRs. The later M42 and PK mount stuff is lower quality, same as found in Cosina and other brands. The OP's 28mm is often seen with Chinon branding.

Have a Petri 55mm f1.8 to m42 which was one of my favorit lenses when I used digital.
This is not far from the takumar 55 1.8.

But it seems these lenses can be all over.

I have that 1.8/55 too and I really like it too, i have had several copies of it, all in the Petri bayonet mount, but I think the M42 one you have is the same optics as i think it is close to the Takumar too.

I agree the Petri lenses can be all over, i have had 6 or 7 various ones and they vary a lot in quality, the best by far is the 1.8/55 imho.

That's the unique property of petri 28/2.8.
Very soft at f2.8, but if you keep half click down, it becomes very sharp.
I keep this lens for this.

And several other brands prior to about 1975. I've recall it as Hanimex/Hanimar and Continental Optics in the store I worked for in '74-'75.

My is not like that and it gets better stoped down but never very sharp.
Do you have the same C.C 28mm m42??

Have seen another petri 28mm that don't have C.C whatever that meens.

It looks like a chinon or sun lens, and is probably from after Petri's camera arm was bought up by Cosina. Or probably more correctly, after Cosina acquired the Petri trademark for cameras.

Yes, it's a Cosina lens, Petri lenses were good before the Cosina era.

C.C. stands for Colour Corrected.

There is a commonly seen Petri labelled 28mm that is a Cosina, PK mount, it doesn't have any other changes from the Cosinon version other than the Petri name, the Petri font is not used nor the C.C. marking, they just replaced Cosinon with Petri. i expect it's a poor lens as I had the 135mm from the same series and it was a poor lens, low contrast, poor saturation of colours, CA, not very sharp. It was tiny though.

Yes I have the same lens. Mine is beat up and scratches, also lose elements when I got it.
It had been a while ago, but i don't think i applied PP, maybe +1 black level as all lenses.

f4 looks way too soft on yours.

I had to disassembled mine to tighten the elements before I can test it.

I did open up from the front name plate, tighten all what I can, then tighten all screws I can find.
Mine was very bad shape when I got it.
