I have an opportunity to buy the non-SMC Suoer Takumar 135/3.5. Any thoughts on this lens? Would it be better to get an SMC? Samples would be most appreciated if anyone has any. For use on 5D and Scarlet. Thank you!

Excellent lens, what Takumar isn't? Smile On a very close par with the famous CZJ 135/3.5. Marginally weaker coating than the SMC version, but not enough to make a noticeable difference. It might even be preferable to the SMC if you're using it in an EOS adapter with an inner flange as the aperture ring won't jam.

I would get it! I have the 2.5 version and love it's smooth focus.

I think try it -- you can sell later if not like, meanwhile look to find S-M-C to compare for yourself -- S-M-C cost more.

Use a hood and you won't see a difference.

Hi Arturo,
I have the Super and Super-Multi-Coated versions of the 135/3.5 Takumar. I have never taken any comparison photos, because both the lenses seem to me almost indistinguishable in sharpness. Maybe the former one has a bit less contrast but it can be easily equalized in post-processing. As the older Super Takumar was half the price of the later one, I tend to use it more - I just do not hesitate to take it out to the "bad weather" Wink

Optically, there are two versions of the Super Takumar 135mm/3.5 lens. The first had a cemented doublet as the rear element, while the second had a single rear element.
