It is what it says it is - a Zeiss Tessar lens. In this case I guess it was made around 1932-1933 according to the serial number.
In this case its in what seems to be a barrel mount with some sort of encircling shroud. It could be some sort of focusing mount too, impossible to say without more photos. You will also want to make sure the rear cell and aperture mechanism are included. I have seen many cases of fine old lenses being stripped from their original mounts with the rear cell, etc. left behind. This renders the lens worthless.
These lenses were used in all sorts of cameras and even enlargers and projectors, and could also have been subsequently fitted into other mountings, so its not easy to tell what sort of equipment this specific one came from based on the picture alone.
These could be used in a wide variety of cameras, so there should be some interest in it from large format photographers and collectors of photographic curios. It may possibly cover 5x7, or give significant movements on a 4x5. Its also a great lens to use on a 4x5 Graflex.
Price would be dependent on condition and identification of the mounting, if it is something interesting like a focusing mount.
I would say a good 19cm Zeiss Tessar barrel lens like this in working order should sell for at least $100. This is an f/3.5 version so it should go for more as the usual types were f/4.5; also interestingly this is a 19cm, which is an unusual focal length for Zeiss, it is not listed in their 1929 and 1933 catalogs. I suppose these things could have been produced by special order for an OEM.
List it on ebay on auction with good pictures. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |
