I'm trying out various lenses on an NEX-7. The one that seems very off to me is a Rikenon 50mm F1.4 lens, which has a yellow cast.
Is it normal for the color rendition to vary a lot between lenses or is there some setting on the NEX-7 that needs to be changed when using a manual lens with an adapter?

I'm guessing the Rikenon might be one of the many radioactive fast normal lenses and thus yellowed. Or some lenses just yellow over time even if they are not radioactive. You can de-yellow it by exposing the rear element to strong UV light (e.g., the sun for several days with no other glass like window in between).
Other than that, you can adjust the colours easiest by shooting raw, but custom white balance also helps in camera. |

Now your pictures will show up.
In general color rendition does vary between lenses, some lenses are fairly neutral, while others have distinctive color signature. I have 55mm f1.4 Rickenon and it does have quite distinctive colors and I don't think it's related to radioactivity. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

Disclaimer: I don't have this particular lens so I was only guessing about the radioactivity. However, based on some vague and unreliable internet sources, I've been under the impression that the 50mm f/1.4 Rikenon and Yashinon might be the same lens, and I have the Yashinon 50mm f/1.4, which I have measured to be radioactive. |

Yeah, my lens is 55mm f1.4, so a completely different one. It could certainly be that 50mm f1.4 is radioactive. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

Got a Mint Rikenon P 50/1.4 for K mount and I don't see any yellow rendering in my 5DII.
I might even say it has a rendering on the cold side. _________________ Canon EOS 5D MkII , EOS 50E, Contax RTS, Olympus OM2n, Nikon Z6ii

I looked through the lens and it seems to have a slight yellow tint. I guess I'll have to give it sun treatment. |

I've found the AWB in the NEX-7 to be quirky, it will at times shift the WB around depending in what's in the FOV, even just stopping down has caused a shift, my Canon's never did this, set your shots to the same WB(Daylight) when testing lenses. _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...
