Hi guys,
I own the ST701 and I find the ST701's viewfinder brighter than the Spotmatic's one.
I like both the Spotmatic F and the ST701, however I'm looking for the best and the brightest possible.
I know that the ST801 is claimed to be the best ever.
However is the ST801's viewfinder noticeably better than the ST701's? Having the ST701, should I seek the ST801?
Those who have used both cameras, please share your experience!
Thank you! |

I would say the viewfinder is the same. But the 801 shows the shuttertime in viewfinder, if you use a m42 EBC Fujinon. _________________ Nikon D600, D300, Sony A3000, A6000, A7, Nikon F4, Canon 5D II, Canon D450, Pentax K30, Q, Q10, Olympus PEN PM2, OMD 5, Panasonic G3, Samsung NX1100, NX mini, Minolta 7D, Fujifilm S3pro, X-A1, Nikon FE2, Canon EOS3, Contaflex super, Minolta X700, Minolta Maxxum 9xi, Minolta Dynax7, Mamiya NC1000, Leica R4, Contax RTS, Olympus OM4 Titan, Praktica BX20, Ricoh XR-20sp, Pentax Me super, Kodak Retinareflex (Rodenstock Heligon C), Voigtlnder Bessamatic, Kiev60, Mamiya 645 and lots of lenses |

The best and brightest viewfinder I've used on a M42 mount camera is the Voigtlander Bessaflex TM. I have both Fujicas (ST605N & ST705W) and most of the Spotmatics. My eyesight is problematic and I find obtaining accurate focus a challenge, but not with the Bessaflex. _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |

Thanks!
Are you sure?
Why everybody praises the 801's viewfinder, not the 701's one?

The Bessaflex costs substantially more And no, I'm not arguing, this must be a good investment and I will consider the Bessaflex as well.
However narrowing the scope to 701 vs 801? Have you used the 801? |

No, I never used the 701 or 801. _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |

I had both cameras the compact FUJICA ST801 and ST901, the first analogue SRL's with LED-technics.
Both cameras and glasses are excellent! |

The st701 has micro-prism spot only. The st801 has a split-screen + microprism ring. The fresnel rings on the st801's screen are also a bit finer. It really is a better screen. Brighter? Maybe marginally. Less than a stop difference. |
