I tend to use either Hoya or B+W filters. I buy the ones in their higher range.

Of course, on digital, UV isn't the problem it is on film, so if it's for digital cameras, I would only use one for protection.

I did test once dirt cheap Chinese Messa it was great didn't impact anything in IQ, old Chinese one was crap. Hoya , B+W my favorite brands old Zeiss (Jena) cheap and nice too.

I have a B+W Kaesemann CPL that is completely edge-sealed against extreme climatic conditions.

Thank you all for your feedback , i really appreciate it. Im using my CZ Flek 20/2.8 on a DSLR and i think im gonna go with a B+W MRC (Muti Resistant Coating) Filter. Besides, you can't go wrong with German glass.

In digital, the best fliter is none filter. Only PP.

For protection, the lens shade is a good thing.

For use at the sea, sand, snow, etc, use almost any of the filters in the market, and don't forget, take off the filter before the photo and, after it, put again.

Of course, depend of the lens will you protect. If it is one of the cheaper, let the filter put over the lens all the time. Difficult to see any diference in 30 or 40 x enlargement. It will be a bad thing with or without the filter.

And if you see the photo in your monitor, use any peace of glass that you can find.

Didn't read that test but I did check in the store (probably I was the pain in the ass for staff there) at least 10-15 filters. I ask them to bring me whatever they have UV filters put them on the lens and took the shoot. I had one reference first taken then took the rest. I closed the aperture also open for second shot and checked if anything changes in the histogram, shutterspeed, colors etc, and with Hoya didn't see almost any changes but I was surprised how much difference was there. B+W was good too but price was a shocker for me. Almost double or triple then Hoya depending on the filter.

Usually I keep always the filter on the lens but for critical shooting or low-light photography I take any filter off (already suggested above). I see changes in the sharpness, color and contrast right away on camera LCD after I magnify the taken pictures (14x). The only thing I always keep is the hood. I purchases from China very cheap at least 6 screw metal hoods (aluminum I think) and that's enough protection for me.

For salt water I do not care while anyway the saltines of the water is in the air too and doesn't matter whatever I do the lens will get exposed... Just my 2c...

YMMW Cool

EDIT: and BTW I thought you asked about UV filter and not POL
