But I'm not very impressed on my (new) monitor.... it doesn't look bad at all but all pics are locking very slightly "smudgy" with low fine detail/microcontrast.
Could you tell something about the condition of the lens?

Probably you see sharpening, lens is fine or your monitor has issue, I believe last, but who knows. I always sharpen images in conversion to jpg. These were done in batch, due no time to adjust each images. I see nothing wrong.
