I bought a classic Praktica SLR because though it would be fun to shoot film again.
But before I put in some film I though it would be a good idea to test the lens on my DSLR.
Here are the results. No to bad if you ask me.

f1.8

f2.8

f4

f5.6

f8

f11

f16

So now I'm hoping for some nice weather tomorrow Smile

I have that Praktica model. It's actually not a bad camera.

Indeed! Praktica cameras can be good! And the Pentacon is a fine lens, great value for money!

It's a good lens. Not as good as some M42 1,7/1,8/2 50 mm ones, like pancolar 1,8/50, SMC 1,8/55, Ricoh 1,7/50, etc.

Standard lenses are always interesting. What I've found is that with older lenses, they can vary a lot within the same model. I have a couple of Contax 50/1.4 and one is clearly sharper than the other, same with a couple of SMC 50/1.4. I have a couple of Super Takumar 55/2 and one is the worst of all the lenses, while the other is the best - slightly sharper than the Contaxes or at least equivalent. You can get great examples of cheaper lenses. I've no idea how many 55/2s I'd have to go through to get one as sharp as the one I have - I just lucked out on ebay. But you could buy about 6 or 7 for the price of one Contax 50/1.4 and sell off the ones you didn't like! I'm just talking sharpness here, though, rendering and bokeh is wholly another question. I love the SMC 50/1.4 for its colours and the Contax likewise.

You can say that again! Laughing Standard lenses seem to be the most scrutinized for "sharpness", it seems everyone's got their own opinion about the sharpest 50.
