I have the Minolta MD 200/2.8. It's very light and surprisingly very sharp. I was lucky I got the lens at about US $270.

How compact can a 200mm f2.8 or 3.5 lens really be? I have a Komine made Vivitar 200mm f3.5, it is big and heavy, but really it is about what I would expect from that focal length and aperture.

The Minolta MD is just 700 gram, lighter than Canon EF 135/2 and about the same size.

My Vivitar is 670 grams, not a big difference. If it is considered small I guess it would be a good choice, they are very under appreciated and sell for very little.

I don't know about the f/2.8 version but I have the Minolta MD 200mm f/3.5 and that one is not very good so all the advice I can give is if you want top quality, stay away from the MD f/3.5 Or test the lens before you buy to make sure you get a good copy (maybe it's actually a good lens and it's only my copy that's bad). As far as size and weight goes, a 200mm/2.8 won't be very small and light no matter what lens you actually choose. They're all big. I also have the CZJ 180/2.8 and while it's a relatively good lens, it's huge and heavy as hell.

EDIT: Actually the lens I have is the Minolta MC Tele Rokkor 200mm/3.5. Sorry about that.

The MD f2.8 is not heavy due to it's non full metal body I guess.

According to mflenses data, the Zeiss 180/2.8 is 1,365 gram, a heavy beast Smile
