Been a long time since posting.
Got the chance to shoot seals (photographically) yesterday. I took my Panny GF3 and Helios 70-210mm lens. Know it's not a fantastic lens but what do you expect for £9.99!!
Don't be fooled by any sunlight it was freezing there yesterday.

(this pup still had it's cord attached when we first arrived, the yellowing on the fur is from the amniotic(?) fluid - don't know if that is the correct terminology, sorry to all you biologists if it is not)
I know I am not in your league, however a few comments and suggestions would be welcomed.
All have been cropped, quick fixed and sharpened using Zoner. _________________ I have to accept that digital photography takes a bit of tweaking afterwards to remove haze and sharpen the images.
Wish it was different but I suppose its kinda like a darkroom???
Thanks for looking

What is your budget ? don't restrict your self to M42 only, you can use many mounts and adapters are dirt cheap, usually you can get nicer lenses with other mounts than with M42 and quiet common price is even less.
Remarkable M42 lenses in 200mm range
Takumar 200mm f4, SMC, Super
Pentacon 200 f4
Meyer 200 f4
Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 200mm f2.8
Tamron 200mm f3.5
Nikon mount
200mm f4 Nikkor
Olympus OM 200mm f4
Minolta, Konica 200mm etc _________________ -------------------------------

Aww they are mega cute! I was going up there a couple of weeks ago but overslept and missed my chance
The Helios is, I'm afraid, pants. I had one before! If you need a long lens, grab a Soligor 300/5.5 or if you can find one at a good price, a Tamron SP 60-300mm. The Soligor should come cheap if you can find one If you want something really long on your MFT camera, look for a Tamron Nestar 400/6.9. That's a great lens with no purple fringing. _________________ Graham - Moderator

You missed a good day out, apparently the last week in November and first week in December are the best weeks to go!! Have you been before?? If not wrap up well, bring some hot drinks for when you get back in the car. It was well worth getting cold for. Thanks will look out for a Soligor!! Like everyone I want a solid lens but don't want to pay the earth.

I have just picked up the Jupiter 21A 200/4 a lovely lens but suffers from purple fringing but a very decent lens .I also like the Adaptall 2 Tamron model 103A it is 80-210, nice and cheap and a decent lens.As Attila says do your research, knowing what you want is half the battle finding it is the other half!
Lovely seal pups. _________________ Moira, Moderator
