a few years ago i queried on this forum why adapters that confirm focus of adapted glass could not be made for mirrorless cameras. the feedback universally was this was physically impossible because of the properties of the 'contrast af' systems used by mirrorless cams. well, not so fast:

so what does this mean? will the chinese now start producing 'smart' adapters allowing us to confirm the focus of all legacy glass, similar to what has been available for the canon ef system for years?

It's just some electronics that converts the NEX's electrical signals into the right protocol for the Canon EF lenses.

Conurus did the same thing years ago as part of their conversion service for Contax N lenses - they add some electronics to the lens that converts the Contax N protocol to the Canon EF protocol, thereby allowing the Contax N lenses to autofocus on Canon bodies.

I don't see how this is particularly useful, it would only be of use to people who have Canon EF lenses and want to use them with a NEX, I doubt that is many people.

A friend just spent 500ukp on a Canon L 4/80-200 and I got to play with it this morning on my 450D. I thought it was not very good, my Konica UC Zoom-Hexanon 4/80-200, Rolleinar MC 4/80-200 and Vivitar Series 1 3.5/80-200 are all better imho, the only advantage of the Canon is AF and I don't like AF anyways.

I suppose if you have to have AF and already own Canon EF lenses then this adapter is cheaper than buying Sony AF lenses for the NEX, but I think there will not be many who want to use Canon EF lenses on a NEX.
