No collection of rangefinders would be complete without one of these.

Bought on Ebay for 99 cents plus $7.90 shipping. Be ready to do some clean up when you get one.

I just sold a "colormatic" like this one on ebay... got $15 for it though. Set everything to yellow for Kodachrome, set everything to red for Ektachrome or Anscochrome. Wink

I currently have in my collection, a 1938 C2, 1941 C3, and a 1959 C3 Standard. I previously had a matchmatic, but ebayed it a while ago - got a pretty good $35 for that one! I guess because the meter was still working.

It will shoot but the rangefinder needs a good cleaning or I'll not be able to use that. Otherwise it works just fine. Viewfinder and lens is crystal clear and the shutter seems to fire correctly at all speeds.

I'll eventually get a Matchmatic as I like the color of that one.

it's remind me to Leica M8 , nice 'no design'.

Looks like it's made from spare parts Shocked

...but spare parts from what? Confused

Maybe all the time they saved on design went into robustness Cool

Don't often see those in the UK, seems you guys kept them all to yourself. I can't decide if I'm grateful Laughing

THey don't work this side of the pond!

Nice looking cameras. I quite fancy them, but shipping makes them expensive.

They are really ergonomic too. Laughing

I honestly don't think the C3 is any worse than any other rangefinder from the 30s... the Contax I and Leica III weren't exactly miracles of ergonomics (or sleek design) either! Laughing

Check out this web page if you want to figure out the date on yours: http://photo.net/users/philster/Argus/DatingYourArgus.htm

I'm willing to bet '56 or '57

I used to scoff at Argus cameras but in recent years I've gained respect for them. They often work when found, something that can't be said about many more expensive cameras of the same era.

And the selinium light meter doesn't work on this one either.

is that a hot shoe or does it look like one and the flash still has to plug into the side. My C3 has no flash shoe

It's a design classic, there's no argument about that. Cool

Some had shoes, later ones. There were also clip-on shoes.

Its an accessory shoe, not a hotshoe. They were normally used for viewfinders or lightmeters.
No hot shoes on these things.
