I was able to get those two beauties in perfect condition for only a few euros.

Unfortunately the lens has some dust in it so I will sent it to Mr. Olbrich for a cleaning.
Also the KM´s metering unit doesn`t work propper. Even after inserting the right type of battery the indicator stands still in horizontal position, no matter which shutter speed I set.

Does anyone know a good and inexpensive german technician who is firm in repairing Pentax Cameras ?

By the way, has anybody ever compared the SMC 1.8/55 to a SMC Pentax M 1.7/50 ?

Here are two examples how the lens performs currently with it`s dust in it on my K-r:

Looks quite promising to me.

Pentax went to great care in assembling and testing their lenses back in the day. I would leave it alone unless the
dust is excessive. Im a fan of the K55/1.8, its a great lens, excellent sharpness and minimal geometric distortion, bettter
than the F1.4

Yes, the build quality is amazing. last Year I got my beloved SMC pentax M 1.7/50 cleaned and readjusted.
It was always good but since it had this revision it became even sharper.

A few specks shouldn't be an issue, I wouldn't worry about it till you see them in your images.

I have the older m42 versions, which I really like it's rendering, more than the 50/1.4.
I also have a bunch of M's and some A's, I think I prefer the m42's more, it's something about the K-mount M's & A's renderings I don't like, and I had high hopes for them.

I got a flawless 1.7 50 a few days ago, I haven't tried it yet, but it's a lens I've been looking for a while. It has a great reputation.

My favorite Pentax 50mm is my SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.4. Its killer sharp with outstanding
macro and micro contrast.

The M 1.7/50 is very good, as is the M 2/50.

BTW, your 55/1.8 smc(K) lens is a little gem. They only made those for three years ('75-'77) and they were superseded
by the inferior m series lenses. Great find! Wink

I had the lens out for service at Mr. Olbrich, the most of the dust is gone. I think the result is worth the price of 31€.
Now the lens seems to have a very very good IQ, sharp and contrasty even wide open and a rather smooth bokeh. - I really like it. Unfortunately I didn`t had enough time to shoot with it as much as I would like. But here is another sample @ F4:
