I have this rare lens with an even rarer original case. The case has two departments, one for the lens and the other for a 2x TC. The compartment for the TC and the bottoms of the tube have foam for protection which has desintegrated. The foam literally falls apart when you touch it.

Does anyone have any ideas what type of foam (should be black) I could use and how I can cut it so that it looks factory made if possible?

The Armaflex is good, in a sheet it has smooth sides and is easy to cut to shape without tearing and falling apart. It comes in various thickness' as well. We used a lot of it for pipe insulation in the water industry and bought it in huge rolls direct from the manufacturer, but I have seen it for sale at an engineering consumables supplier.

Maybe Neoprene would be another option ?
