Despite of the built-in retractable hood of the 105/2.5 AIS, can I mount the larger HS-8? Also is this snap-on only or does it also has screw on thread? What about HN-8?

Welcome to MFlenses Frederico
It may help us to help you if you tell us what camera you plan to use it on.
If it is a full frame digital or a film camera or a small sensor digital as it will
effect what you can get away with as far as vignetting images.
Enjoy your stay and the wealth of knowledge that is here.

Most Nikkor lenses have 52mm threads. The rest should follow.

If they are both 52mm, yes.

Thanks for the welcome. I will use it on a FF DSLR camera.

hello Frederico
yes ... you can use HS-8 on that lens and if memory serves me correctly
it is a snap on type.
I use a D7000 which has a smaller sensor than a full frame which allows
me to use a longer hood on same lenses. Why use a longer hood some
might ask. I like to take a lot of close up back-lit images and need as much
hood as possible to keep out the bright stray light that causes flare in many
images. Some times because of this half the length of the lens I am using will
be a hood. Altho this lens does not flare as quickly as others , use the hood
for better results.
Enjoy the lens...its a good one.
