I got this lens on last March. Tried some shots and fall in love with this lens immediately. I like the rendering so very much.
The minus point of this lens is only one ... it's a bit heavy Very Happy

By the way, weeks ago I check the current average price of this lens on eBay and it shockingly increased by about $200 compared to the price on last March! And now it's about $600 ... insane isn't it? Very Happy
Maybe someday this lens could catch the price of the lens it's copied from ... Biotar 75/1.5 .. haha Smile

Here are some photos I shot weeks ago, using 5DII, using Standard Picture style.

Bokeh test ... at wide open and f/5.6

Left at f/5.6, right at wide open

Portrait test ...

At wide open it has beauty glow like Summilux 80 .. Smile

By the way, the color and tonal is original from camera, no post processing at all except sharpening for resized photo (the crop is original without sharpening)

What makes the color & lighting is good I think is because its rather cloudy day .... giant softbox made by nature Very Happy

One tip I can give which helps is to remove the tripod collar from the lens, saves some ounces anyways.

Nice display Nixland!

Thanks Kelly. My Helios 40-2 was without tripod collar when I bought it. Smile But I think I have to live with its weight. Btw I wonder is there any significant color, contrast, sharpness difference with the 40 version (single coat?). Its lighter than 40-2.

It's not a bad lens, but I cannot justify the expense. It's a great lens for shooting flowers of for effects, but for general usage it falls down as it never seems to get sharp.

Do you mean the 40 version, the Cyclops or all Helios 85 in general?

Just playing with the lens and the big boy Canon 85/1.2L II this morning.

Look at the swirly bokeh of the Helios. Sweet isn't it? Smile

What an amazing lens!
If only it wasn't that expensive...

Unquestionably one of the great lenses. I wheel it out anytime I want to do a portrait.

You can wait for the new produced lens by KMZ Smile They said it's only about US $200-300.

Or you could get the aperture-less Cyclop 85/1.5. I have one and the OOF rendering is exactly the same with the 40-2.

Below is the recent shots I took with the 40-2 ... no PP except resizing and sharpening.
