That really doesn't tell you much. The glass types are all different now. |

The problem here is the same as with any other non-established lens manufacturer. The quality is unknown, there is no enforceable warranty, no distribution and no repair network. I remember someone on dpreview having a problem with decentered MS-Optical Perar and his dealing with MS-Optical were far from smooth.
Essentially the company is one guy in the shed. I am skeptical that such company can design not entirely trivial lens such as 1.1/50, manufacture it to required tolerances, and make the whole venture financially attractive. How many lenses they would sell, 100? 300?
I would be glad if I am wrong, but I strongly suspect that any legacy 1.2/50 is a better proposition, so the only attraction here is that it's an M-mount, but then there is M-Mount CV Nokton, which is cheaper too. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

The quality may be good, but there's no way to tell what the consistency is, where the glass is obtained, and so forth. On the other hand, Japanese craftsmanship is not to be sneezed at. |

Japanese origin is another thing that makes me suspicious. They try hard to make sure that one connects MS Optical with Japan. However, low volume manufacture (in particular machining) is expensive in US/Europe. I don't have first hand Japanese knowledge, but I assume it's the same in Japan. So my hunch is that all the components are produced in China/Hong Kong, perhaps only final assembly is made in Japan if anything at all.
Another point, there were plenty of crap lenses made in Japan, so that's hardly convincing. Yet another point, the fastest Sonnar that I know of is f1.5, if one could do decent quality 1.1 Sonnars, Zeiss would've made them 70 years ago. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

Sure, quite intriguing project I have to say. Their previous lens was just a triplet, this one is much more interesting. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

Yes. The designed is the well known for converting lenses to rangefinders.

MS Optical has been around for a few years and have produced some very nice lenses. I have their 3.5/35 Super Triplet Perar which is a tiny thing but packs quite a punch - very sharp with lovely bokeh (see a couple of samples below). I doubt that they would put out a lens that was anything other than respectable in performance. As for warranty, Dirk Roesler handles claims and my dealings with him have been generally positive.
