It's coming to the end of summer and there will be mostly bad light here from now until spring, therefore it's time to find a workable solution.
I began with taking a Kodak Vision2 100T film and exposing it at 400 in my Konica FT-1 with Hexanon 4/21. This lens is very sharp and has a very deep dof, so focus errors and softness won't be a problem, I'll use this combo for all these experiments to give a commonality.
Sadly I underdeveloped the film. I usually do 15 mins 24-26C in 1:14 Fomadon LQR for this film, I added 3 mins and did 18 mins at 23C. This wasn't enough, looks to me like I need to add 3 mins per stop I push the film, and in this case that would have been 21 mins.
The result was half the roll only was scannable and many of those were too dark when scanned. There were a few that were okay, but I need to repeat this experiment and get the developing right.
Exposures were around f11 at 1/60, which tells you how dark it was, with a 400 speed film.
Grain wasn't increased a noticeable amount by pushing two stops, this film pushes well.

Cheers. the 21mm makes interesting perspectives and compositions possible, easily my favourite lens atm. It's a shame some of the shots of the rails were too dark as I really like the linear perspective and vanishing point effect. I'll repeat the shots.
I messed around with the shadows and highlights and contrast on all of these, including #1. Then I sharpened them quite aggressively and did some noise reduction.
I am reserving judgment until I repeat the test as the bad development skewed things.
I have some FP4 and HP5 bulk rolls too, that's something else I'll try. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

'Bad Light Experiment...' is just poor salesmanship. I would have titled the thread 'Low Key' and brazen it out.
Nice set, like 1,3,4, and 5. |
