by now a bit more than a rumor,
most likely the sensor of the K-5 in a smaller, "entrance or mid level" body though nicely specced with two wheels and weather sealing

weather sealed, 2 wheels, 100% coverage pentaprism viewfinder, exchangeable focus screen, live view with reportedly 'best of any' focus peaking as on K-01 for us $849, looking very sweet, size between K-r and K-5 and I expect, for it's deep as always but higher grip, even better handling than any prior model:

It has an interesting, kind of "sporty" look! I also like the coloured versions.
If the sensor is as good as the one in the K5, that's a very interesting cam!

Even at the same price as the K-5 (initially at least) I'd be inclined toward the K-30 due to a) focus peaking b) AA battery possibility. Although perhaps it isn't reasonable to expect current digital cameras to be running classics in 15 years, still, it's nice to think there still are AA batteries around in 15 years Laughing

I like the look too, but I am very utilitarian Wink what I like best about the design is that the grip is not only very deep but also unusually high, and the whole camera very compact, not 'long'. It must rest in the hand very comfortably!

The sensor reportedly is the same as in the mirrorless K-01 which had been developed out of the K-5's sensor.
The K-01's sensor is optimized for video but only has 12-bit RAW as compared to the 14-bit RAW of the K-5, 16 megapixels, ISO 100 to 12,800 expandable to 25,600

According to Dxomark the K-01's sensor has the best high ISO performance of all 'hybrid sensors' ( don't ask me what that means as I don't believe they mean CCD / CMOS hybrid but most likely sensor optimized for video, as in many mirrorless? anyone knows? ) on the market right now. In total it scores second best behind NEX7 which beats it in color depth and dynamic range and ahead of 3rd placed NEX5N ( and scores a tad below the K-5 and Nikon D7000 with their 'almost' identical sensors ) http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/News/DxOMark-news/The-Pentax-K-01-the-second-best-hybrid-sensor

It looks good although i think Pentax should give its user a FF camera.
After all, the Pentax system is the most longeve and it's a shame that you can't use Pentax lenses on a Pentax camera the way they were designed to be.
That would also mean that another company will have a stabilized FF camera for sale and i really think the stabilization is one of the plus on these cameras.

In-between compact cameras and SLRs, a new breed of camera has cropped up, known as interchangeable lens compacts, hybrids or mirrorless cameras.

thank's John for clarifying. "Hybrid sensor" here must be referring to sensors used in "hybrid cameras"

Were I in the market for a new APS-C camera, I'd have bought the K-30 already. I'm saving instead on the hope that Pentax will release an FF in Q4, as rumored.
